Rough-Cut vs. Smooth-Finish Dimensions

Our rough-cut lumber is sold as full-inch material: a rough-cut 2x6 is 2 inches thick by 6 inches wide. Planing reduces the dimensions. A standard finished 2x6 is 1.5 inches by 5.5 inches; confirm the actual finished dimensions of your selected board before ordering, especially for custom sizes.

What to Expect from Green Hemlock

Our rough, unseasoned hemlock is untreated green lumber sourced from Ontario mills. As green lumber dries, it naturally shrinks and may develop checks. Allow for these changes when planning your project and confirm whether rough green lumber or a smooth-finish option suits your needs.

For load-bearing barn floors, have your builder or engineer confirm the required board grade, thickness, support spacing, and design loads. Green rough-cut boards should not be assumed ready for finished-floor installation.
